My advice, do not be fooled by the title of this movie. I am sure everyone will think of romance and togetherness with his partner when reading the word 'valentine'. Thoughts everyone will be focused on a general opinion, in which Valentine is a symbol of affection, symbol of love, and a symbol of happiness. This is the positive side of the provocative title of this movie; evoke the memory of people to always think about love.
Starting from the harmonious relations Dean (Ryan Gosling) and his wife Cindy (Michelle Williams). They had a son named Frankie (Faith Wladyka). The children shown are more familiar with his father, rather than to her mother. But then the audience asked to flash back on the early relationship between Dean and Cindy.
But it did not apply in this film. This emotional drama film which tells the story of life is full of conflict, full of drama, full of twists ins. The bottom line is that this film tells the truth about a life. There is nothing cliched or just make the audience happy. Depictions of life exposed to so real in front of an audience. Scene after scene as if giving a lesson that life is not always beautiful and happy. Sometimes life is pain, bitterness, conflict and disharmony.
Happiness and misery they hit successive relationships. Starting from when they were acquaintances, dating to the wedding. All played with a very honest about the real life story. So also with their stories. Their meeting was also without a plan. Dean is a young man who really likes music, singing, and his life can be spelled out very beautiful. But he prefers to be porters in a goods transport service company. This is a life choice that can not be associated with the experience and his knowledge. While Cindy at that time had just broken up with Bobby (Mike Vogel), a school in farmatika. Then they meet and begin the story as well as the drama of his life.
Flasback scenes created by Derek Cianfrance (the director) was very good. In this effect the audience feeling will be playing around, up and down. Like when the audience will be made jealous by the beginning of their relationship, then will be sad when their marriage began to crack and crumble. One again, the audience also will not find a happy ending on this Valentine Blue. Everything is told and illustrated with what is, without any effort to make the audience happy heart.
